OUR NEWS __________________________________________________ THE TEAM - OCTOBER 2007 ----------------------- We had six people on the team on this trip, Helen Ritchie from Belfast, Martha Mendez and Robin Stover from the US, and Nicky Wilkinson from England. * Read more... http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/51/77/ HEAVEN'S GARDEN BABY RESCUE CENTRE ---------------------------------- "Defend the rights of the poor and the orphans; be fair to the needy and the helpless." (Psalms 82:3 Good News Bible) Sierra Leone has the highest infant mortality rate in the world. It has long been on our hearts to do something about the many babies here that would otherwise die. Recently God has made a way for us to start to make a difference. * Read more... http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/56/77/ HOUSE OF HOPE - CHILDREN'S CARE CENTRE -------------------------------------- 'House of Hope' is our residential care centre for orphaned and vulnerable kids. We have 28 orphans in our care, 18 of them live in the House of Hope, the others are in community foster care. They range in age from 19, 18, 17 right down to 21/2 We have 2 care workers, one resident and the other works day time. In a fatherly role we have Pastor Andrew from Zion AoG church. We took in 3 new children to the House of Hope while we were there. The first was a little boy of 21/2 called Joanis. His story is not a typical one for us but nevertheless the heart beat of Jesus says 'care'... * Read more... http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/52/77/ WOMEN'S CONFERENCE - HEALING IN THE BROKEN PLACES ------------------------------------------------- FHMI held a one day Women's Conference in the Zion Assemblies of God Church in Bo. The speakers were Martha Mendez and Robin Stover from USA and Barbara Craig from Northern Ireland. For Robin and Martha this was their second trip to Sierra Leone, their first was in 2005. In the USA they work together pioneering a gourmet salsa business and also bring many people through personal councelling. We recieved word of many testimonies of lives transformed, relationships restored and foregiveness released. We have included a few of them below. * Read more... http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/54/77/ NICKY WILKINSON - MISSIONARY ---------------------------- Nicky Wilkinson from Elim International Missions joined the full-time team in Bo for an initial period of 6 months. Nicky's home church is Dewsbury Elim near Leeds in England. For the last 2 years she has been working in Freetown. We are delighted to have Nicky with us and believe she will make a lasting contribution as she supports the existing staff under our Head of Ministry Development, Cynthia Kanu. * Read more... http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/53/77/ OUR PRIMARY SCHOOLS ------------------- Both our town and remote villages schools are doing well with an increased enrollment of destitute kids at both sites. We have plans for a 3rd school if we get the support. 57% of primary age children do not go to school. There are 2 main reasons, one, there are no schools within walking distance for all these remote villages we are attempting to reach and two, even if there were schools available, no one could afford school fee's due to adverse poverty. Email us if you think a church group would like to know more about adopting village schools and churches. OUTREACH -------- We had planned an evangelistic outreach in a large village where the Islamic Imam asked us to start a church. Unfortunately due the extended rainy season we were unable to do this event. We had also planned a feeding day for the children of that village but again the rains stopped event. Our full-time team will reschedule both events for December. LAND PURCHASE ------------- Our purchase of 8.5 acres for our central Hub is almost complete. By December we should have it paid off ready for clearing and building. The Hub will contain homes for orphans, Bible College, Training workshops, Baby Rescue Centre, Clinic, Visitor Centre, pilot agricultural 'gardens'. It will be the resource centre for all our village outreach for about a 50 mile radius. VOCATIONAL TRAINING ------------------- We continue to train vulnerable women in skills to keep them off the streets. Some are coming to the end of their training period and we hope to start them off with micro loans in their chosen skill area. This gives them hope that they can start to provide for themselves and their families, eventually paying their own children's school fees. FUTURE TEAM VISITS ------------------ We are planning trips in February, April and November 2008. If you feel God calling you to 'give a drink to the thirsty' then please email us. The harvest is truly white. HOW TO DONATE UK ---------------- If you are in the UK there are 2 ways to donate. Do a direct bank transfer using your Internet Banking provider. The account details are printed at the bottom of the Standing Order form at: http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/18/34/ The second is to to send a cheque. Please email us at address@fresh-hope.org for the postal address. HOW TO DONATE INTERNATIONALLY ----------------------------- By far the most cost effective method is to do an electronic or wired transfer. You can get all the details that your bank will need from: http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/17/36/ There is also a link on the top right hand corner of our home page that will let you donate using a Credit/Debit card through Paypal. This however can be very expensive for us if large amounts are sent this way. If you are in the US, cheques can be made out to 'Heaven's Garden Ministries', a 501c(3) company acting on our behalf. Please write 'FHMI' on the back of the cheque. Email heavensgarden@fresh-hope.org to receive the address to send it to. TAX RELEF and GIFT AID ON DONATIONS ----------------------------------- From USA please see above. For UK taxpayers we can claim a further 28% on top of your donation if you send us a Gift Aid Declaration. Please print off the form at: http://www.fresh-hope.org/content/view/19/35/ and email us at address@fresh-hope.org to receive our postal address. Thank you all for your prayers and continued support without either we would achieve little. With Richest Blessing in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, David and Barbara Craig [SUBSCRIPTIONS]
