Baby Rescue Centre

Background

Heaven’s Garden: Baby Rescue Centre was started in 2006 with the aim to take babies in whose mothers have either passed away or were abandoned and would otherwise not survive. Each child has their own unique story and background. The baby rescue centre exists to give each baby brought in a hope and a future.

Psalm 139:13-14 says, “You formed my innermost parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Opportunity to Rescue

What an opportunity we have to impart this knowledge onto our children and to bring them up knowing that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. We have had countless opportunities to make a difference to change children's lives. However, the reality is that we could have saved so many more lives if our baby rescue centre had more capacity and if we had more financial support to pour into these children’s lives and to rescue many more babies.

Cost for survival

Each child living in the baby rescue centre costs approximately £120 ($156/€139) a month. For survival these children need care, formula milk, clothing, toiletries, medical care and a balanced diet to support the weaning process. One of the most expensive, but necessary, items is formula milk as it has to be imported into Sierra Leone. For us to be able to provide the best opportunity for survival for these children is through regular financial support. If we had this regular financial support we could make such a difference in more children’s lives and rescue so many more babies from death through expanding our premises.

10 New Babies

As of June 2020 we welcomed 10 new babies into our baby rescue centre. Some of these babies were orphaned from their parent/parents dying from the coronavirus or from giving birth whilst other parents could not financially support the child. In the baby rescue centre we have house mums who take care of the babies during the night and aunties who take care of the babies during the day.

All of the staff who work in the baby rescue centre attend and are known to and supported in their role by the Fresh Hope church. These staff hand wash the babies clothes, nappies and towels, clean, making dinner and playing with the babies. Fresh Hope also need continued financial support to be able to support our staff financially to provide a safe and nurturing place where children are loved, valued and brought up knowing that Jesus loves them and has a plan for their life. As these children get older they have the opportunity to attend our Fresh Hope School and are financially supported by Fresh Hope into loving Christian homes whose new families attend and are supported by our Fresh Hope Church and by Reverend Massaquoi who oversees Fresh Hope Ministries International on the ground in Sierra Leone.

For a baby in the baby rescue centre to be cared for and for schooling fees to be secured it will cost £120 ($156/€139) per month which is 4 regular donors at £30 ($40/€35). Additionally, the baby rescue centre are in need of additional funds to purchase additional beds and furniture and they would love to construct a playground and to purchase some toys for our children to help our children to learn, develop and build social skills to help children’s transition into nursery.
