Background

Matthew 28:19 says that we are called to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We are called to extend the kingdom wherever we are. Reverend Massaquoi is Fresh Hope’s lead pastor and has faithfully been planting churches in Sierra Leone in recognition of the importance of spreading the love of Jesus in a predominantly muslim area. Reverend Massaquoi’s own conversion from following the Islamic faith to becoming a Christian and developing a personal relationship with God has inspired his work in planting churches in Sierra Leone. These churches support the work of Fresh Hope on the ground massively and we are very grateful for their continued efforts to spread the love of Jesus and for bringing more people to faith.

Kingdom extension

To date 86 churches have been planted with 95% of these churched being planted in predominantly muslim communities. We have 150 church planters in these poverty-stricken communities who are actively involved in evangelism and discipleship making. Our church planters are following the call of Jesus to extend the kingdom on earth and despite their difficult and uncertain circumstances place their hope in the one who brings hope. Just like other churches these churches have weekly bible studies and weekly prayer and fasting meetings. Reverend Alusine Massaquoi describes Sunday services in Fresh Hope church as being “always lively and they always find joy in worshipping the Lord despite their situation” as it says in Psalm 100:1 to "Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture."

Church's response to COVID-19

During the COVID-19 period Fresh Hope Church has developed House Churches to allow church members to continue to meet, encourage one another, continue to outreach to others and to worship together each week. Reverend Alusine Massaquoi asked some of our house church members “what is your message to worshippers around the world during this pandemic to surround themselves faith towards this pandemic?”
